Conference Policies

The following policies and conditions apply to all HAVI Conference events, both online and in person.

  • 1. Recent Exposures and Symptoms

Please do not travel and attend the event if you are not feeling well, if you have been recently exposed to COVID, or tested positive for COVID.

    2. Vaccination and Testing

Attendees must be vaccinated and/or are testing to ensure the health and safety of themselves and conference attendees.

    3. Masking

Encouraged for those who choose to remain masked, but not required for the event. We will be providing masks for those who wish to remain masked.

    4. Additional Information

Our conference planning team will continue to monitor COVID-19 health and safety developments. We will follow all guidelines and requirements from the CDC and Cook County Department of Public Health. We will update our conference page frequently to ensure we are providing the most up-to-date information about COVID-19 safety protocols.

  • We recognize that plans change, and cancellation of your registration may be necessary. Please send all cancellation requests in writing to conference organizers at havipeerlearning@thehavi.org

Cancellation requests received by Friday, September 15, 2023, will receive a refund less a $50 processing fee. Because of convening costs incurred after the September 15 deadline, cancellations after this date – including no-shows at the conference – will not receive a refund.

If you are no longer able to attend but would like to send a substitute in your place, please contact convening organizers no later than Friday, September 22, 2023. There is no fee to change the name on a registration if we are notified by the September 22 deadline.

  • The Health Alliance for Violence Intervention (the HAVI) is dedicated to establishing a safe conference setting. To achieve this, the HAVI strictly prohibits any form of discrimination and harassment towards individuals based on factors such as age, ancestry, color, disability, national origin, race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, appearance, marital status, veteran status, or any other legally protected characteristic. All members of the HAVI staff, conference volunteers, attendees, presenters, and other participants involved in HAVI Conference activities, regardless of time and location, are expected to uphold an atmosphere devoid of discrimination and harassment. This policy encompasses all events associated with the conference, as well as communications distributed through official channels, including social media.

We expect all attendees to treat each other with respect and to abide by the following code of conduct:

    Acceptable Behaviors Include:

    • Be considerate of those around you.

    • Be respectful of others and their viewpoints that may be different from your own.

    • Be collaborative with others.

    • Be mindful of your words and actions.

Unacceptable behaviors include, but are not limited to, statements or actions which:

    • Reflect hatred against others based on race, religion, color, national origin, sexual orientation, gender expression or identity, age, disability, veteran or marital status, or any other similar categories.

    • Use unlawful, harmful, vulgar, obscene, threatening, or abusive language and/or imagery.

    • Constitutes defamation or harassment.

    • Infringes on the rights of any third party.

    • Impersonates any person or communicates under a false name or a name you are not entitled to use.

The HAVI recognizes impact over intent. Harassing behavior does not require intent to offend. Inappropriate conduct or language meant as a joke, a prank, or even a compliment can lead or contribute to harassment.

    Consequences of Unacceptable Behavior

If you believe that you or any event attendee is experiencing harassing or discriminatory conduct during conference-related events, you are encouraged to report this behavior to HAVI staff or via our reporting form. Individuals who are found to be in violation of this policy may face consequences up to and including removal from the conference without a refund.

If you believe that you or any event attendee is experiencing harassing or discriminatory conduct during conference-related events, you are encouraged to report this behavior to HAVI staff or through this reporting form.
